History

Sildenafil was originally known as compound UK-92,489 and was originally manufactured to treat angina pectoris otherwise known as a form of cardiovascular disease. Phase I: clinical trails proved that the drug ended up having very little effect on angina but was discovered to stimulate obvious penile erections. Pfizer then decided to promote it for erectile dysfunction instead of angina as initially planned. Recent reports show the number of cases of NAION that was report to date was 14.
Some patients that use sildenafil has complained of blurriness as well as some patients who lost their peripheral vision. In all reported cases the patient had a hereditary condition known as a "cup" in the retina.
